Continuing the green course, SJSC "State Real Estate” (SRE) and LLC (SIA) "Ignitis Latvija" have opened the first public electric charging station in Čiekurkalns, Talejas Street 1, Riga, where four electric cars can be charged at the same time.
Renārs Griškevičs, Chairman of the Board of SRE, expressed his satisfaction with the successful cooperation with LLC (SIA) "Ignitis Latvija": "Electric mobility is our future and this station is just one step towards a cleaner and greener environment. We are pleased with the successful cooperation and the opportunity to contribute in this direction, promoting the spread of sustainable mobility solutions in the Čiekurkalns neighbourhood. This year, we plan to lease land plots in three more locations for publicly accessible charging stations,” says R. Griškevičs.
“Promoting electromobility involves building an efficient public access EV charging network closer to where people live or work. In cooperation with SRE, Čiekurkalns residents are offered a modern and state-of-the-art fast EV charging solution for public use, using 100% renewable energy resources. I am convinced that this is a positive start to a sustainable cooperation with SRE to jointly implement the development of the green course in Latvia," says Arturs Svekris, Head of Ignitis Latvija EV charging network.
The charging station at Talejas street 1 is equipped with the latest technology, providing customers with convenient and fast charging. This station enables drivers to charge their electric car in an average of 15 minutes for a 100 km range, thanks to its ultra-fast DC charging capacity of 200 kW, while the slower station can charge your car in around 4-6 hours, depending on the battery capacity. There is no limit on the length of stay at the station when charging. The station can charge four electric cars at the same time.
When ensuring environmental accessibility, special care has been taken to ensure that the station is easy to use for all EV owners, including people with reduced mobility.
For more convenient payments, drivers can use a mobile app at the station, and a 24-hour customer service is available. The contract between SRE and LLC (SIA) "Ignitis Latvija" is valid until 1 September 2032, thus ensuring the long-term availability of the charging station.
The station has been available for public use for almost three weeks and, according to data from LLC (SIA) "Ignitis Latvija", 12 charging operations have been carried out in 20 days, which shows the constant activity of drivers and demand for electric vehicle charging services. Practically every working day, a user uses the charging facility at Talejas Street 1, reflecting the growing interest in electric vehicles and sustainable mobility.
The development of a network of electric vehicle charging stations is an important step towards environmental sustainability and the overall well-being of society. In 2023 SRE installed electric charging stations for the Financial Intelligence Service and the State Probation Service at Vaļņu street 28 and Valērijas Seiles street 9, respectively (an additional station was installed). This year SRE is planning to hold lease auctions for land plots for public EV charging stations in several locations in Latvia – currently, until 8 May, an auction for a land plot in Ventspils, Jūras Street 34, is announced, as well as auctions for land plots in Limbaži and Riga, Pulka street 8 are planned. More information about auctions is available on the electronic auction site izsoles.ta.gov.lv.
