In the end of 2021, SJSC State Real Estate (SRE) repeatedly announced the construction procurement for the establishment of a prototyping workshop “Riga Makerspace” at 13 A. Briāna Street, Riga, in the competition of nine construction contractors, the tender of the supplier association “P un S Būvniecība” for 8.78 million euros (with VAT) was recognised as the most economically advantageous, informs Renārs Griškevičs, Chairman of the Board of SRE.
The amount of the potential repeated procurement agreement for the implementation of the main works - revitalisation and energy efficiency works - is 8.78 million euros (including VAT), and it has been submitted by the general partnership “P un S Būvniecība”. The agreement for the implementation of the main works is planned to be concluded by the end of June and the construction works are planned to be completed by the end of 2023.
It was necessary to attract another 1.3 million euros for the full implementation of the project. On 21 June 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the redistribution of 700 thousand euros to partially cover the increase in costs from the state budget programme “Financing of high-preparedness projects for overcoming the Covid-19 crisis and economic recovery”.
“The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the pandemic period have affected the construction industry and will affect both the implementation deadlines of individual projects and the required funding. In order not to stop construction in the 23 SRE projects currently under construction, together with the involved parties, we are promptly finding solutions to jointly overcome the challenges and create an equal division of responsibilities and risks between the customer and the contractor,” R. Griskevičs points out.
The former Riga Light Industry Technical School building at 13 A. Briāna Street, Riga, will be adapted to the needs of a total of six Riga Secondary School of Design and Art and Latvian Academy of Arts educational programmes, creating appropriate new product sample production or prototyping workshops, which will ensure a high-quality and competitive learning process for pupils and students. In addition, modern rooms for seminars and other events will be set up. You can find out more about the project in the video story of our series “Buildings and Legends”: https://youtu.be/0uL2e0pYQuE.
Buildings renovated within the framework of the project, are located near the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site “Historic Centre of Riga”. One of the buildings for which we will provide new development opportunities within the project is of historical value; thus, we will continue to take care of the preservation of cultural and historical heritage, upgrade public space in the area of 1,500 m2 and renovate public buildings in the area of 3,600 m2, as well as take energy efficiency increasing measures. For the full implementation of the project, all interested parties can now apply for the procurement of prototyping workshop equipment, which will provide an opportunity for visitors to create new and innovative products.
