The completion of the 1st stage of development of the border crossing points Pāternieki and Silene is planned by the end of the year

SJSC State Real Estate (SRE) will perform additional construction works at the border crossing points Pāternieki and Silene in order to implement the additional requirements of the State Border Guard (SBG) and the State Revenue Service (SRS) regarding the construction of control pavilions, enabling the SBG and SRS to use joint infrastructure.

“As a result of the modernisation of border crossing points Pāternieki and Silene, a new approach to border and customs control will be introduced, making inspections more efficient and faster, which will have a positive impact on the flow capacity of border crossing points and increase the security level of the EU external border,” says Renārs Griškevičs, Chairman of the Board of SRE.

The association of persons BA will perform additional unforeseen construction works at the border crossing point Silene. The implementation of the construction works will ensure the development of the Latvian and Belarusian border crossing point - the full implementation of the 1st stage. The administration building will be expanded and territory reconstruction performed at the border crossing point Silene.

Whereas, additional construction works at the border crossing point will be performed by the contractor, attracted via procurement results. Works will be performed at the border crossing point Silene and border crossing point Pāternieki to ensure the implementation of the specified requirements of the facility users regarding the bus passenger control terminal and control pavilions. The deadline for the completion of the construction of the 1st stage of modernisation of the project “Border crossing points Pāternieki and Silene” is extended until 30 December 2021.

The project is currently in the final stages of construction. Until now, during the project implementation, reconstruction works have been performed in the territory of the border crossing points, the parking area has been expanded for the needs of trucks, roof covering has been replaced and facade restoration works have been performed, the number of inspection lanes has been expanded to increase the operational efficiency of the border crossing points, traffic organisation panels have been installed etc. After the allocation of additional funding, the total construction costs of the 1st stage of development of Pāternieki and Silene border crossing points are 5,816,375 euros.

Maintenance of objects important for the security of Latvia and the European Union and development of borders is one of the directions of SRE activity. In total, 18.5 million euros is currently being invested in the modernisation of the Latvia-Russia and Latvia-Belarus borders taking place under the management of SRE. As a result of these projects, by the end of 2023, comfortable and modern working conditions will be available to the staff of border control points, and the infrastructure necessary for border control and customs control will be improved, making the border crossing more efficient and faster.
