Modernisation of the border crossing point “Grebņeva”

 

The aim of the project is to modernise the “Grebņeva” border crossing point.
Four inspection pavilions equipped with modern control technologies will be built at the border crossing point, ensuring the efficient flow of border crossers and the acquisition and verification of biometric data. The posts of road border guards will be adapted to the requirements of the European Central Entry and Exit System.

The modernised border crossing point “Grebņeva” will ensure the more efficient control of border crossers, thus strengthening border security.

Latvia, together with other European Union countries, is currently working very actively on a number of border control and border crossing modernisation measures, the implementation of which is provided for in the new European Union regulations. Together with other EU Member States, we are not only modernising information systems for data exchange at a national and international level, but also carrying out major rebuilding and equipment purchases at border checkpoints for not just streamlining the flow of border crossers, but also for significantly improving working conditions for border guards. We expect to already have the first benefits for border crossers at the end of this year, when Latvia together with other Member States will jointly introduce new technological data exchange solutions, and reconstruction and equipment works at border crossing points will be gradually completed.

Project name and identification number:
Border crossing point “Grebņeva” modernisation. Project is being implemented within the framework of the Internal Security Fund 2014-2020 programme, project No. IC/IDF/2020/6 “Implementation of the Entry/Exit System and ETIAS within  the information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior in co-operation with the State border Border Guard, State Police and the SJSC “State real estate”.

Project purpose:
Modernise the State Border Guard Electronic Information System (REIS) and its technical platform and supplement it with a common national interface with the European Central Entry/Exit System (IIS), ensuring compliance with the Schengen Borders Code provisions, while providing the improvement of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS).

In the amount of 86% or EUR 6 981 919  financing from EU funds.
In the amount of 14% or EUR 1 166 652 financing from the state budget.
